New York, New York : Photo Diary

Monday, January 19, 2015

I hate packing. For a weekend trip for anything I have to pack at lease 8 outfits bc things happen! Plus at lease 3 pairs of shoes depending on the trip (sandals, reg shoes, heels if needed) it's just so tedious. I decided to go the easy route this time and only packed 2 pairs of jeans so that I'd be wearing one pair by the time I got to NY (8am?) so that way I could work my outfits around to make more suitcase space :-) The average temperature for the weekend we went was around 30 degrees so I ended up just shoving in a bunch of shirts no one would see anyway and a couple heavier coats and scarves. Also, if you plan on wearing a dress during winter on the East Coast, everyone wears leggings/stockings under them so pack those too. Just a heads up, bc I didn't know that was a thing. (stockings are basically see through and thin anyway so it's not like it's much warmer???)

Idk. Moving on, I wasn't too worried about shampoos and conditioners since we were staying in a hotel so they usually have little minis but I did pack some just bc I like my own.

How to get "beach waves"

*pun very much intended (bae watch, beach  hair get it get it)* So I'm back from New York City, and it feels great to be home :-) There'll be a few New York blog posts comin up but I thought I'd  do a hair post before hand because I bought some new products recently that I've been enjoying :> Obviously I've cut my hair and since it's shorter I've lost a bit of the waves I used to have. Usually I have a really uncontrollable, wavy mess of hair that I don't even bother with but lately it's a lot flatter. Only towards the very ends do my waves start to come up but it's a little weird looking since it's shorter now. So I went to Ulta to poke around a little to look for some products to get me a bit more texture and get back the hair that I'm used to lol.

I've actually heard a lot about Not Your Mothers products so I figured why not. I basically bought every product they had for beach hair just so I could test it all out.

Below is the semi-end result. My hair was actually still wet but I didn't really have time for it to dry that day and it was windy out so I wasn't trying to take a picture in that weather, but this is the gist of it. I'm a little surprised the shampoo and conditioner aren't drying at all, the conditioner is pretty moisturizing for containing sea salt and such. The texturizing cream is decent, you can't put  too much because then your hair dries hard and funky. I'm not a huge fan of hard hair lol Even though it holds shape I feel like I would just use mousse or hair spray if I wanted that kind of hair feel. I have yet to use the spray but overall not too bad :>

I'll have some NY posts up soon and a VLOG so stay tuned my nuggets.

I Did A Thing

So this was actually completely spontaneous, but not exactly the first time I've thought about doing. Yesterday I basically cut 7 inches off of my hair, and I'm still not really over it.. I've had my hair with the ombre style for the past year and a half I want to say and since I first got it my hairs grown sooo much. With that being said it basically looked and felt like hay it was so unhealthy because I never really cut it.

It was SUCH a hassle to put it up or have it look decent (I have natural beachy waves, so this with the dryness of my hair I'd get little dready curls) and I was over it.

So now for the big reveal, I have plenty of before pictures on this blog as well as my instagram but so we can see a direct comparison here's a photo just before I got it cut and re-dyed:

It honestly looks and feels so much better I couldn't be happier.  When I first got my ombre it was a good blonde, but I've never actually been this blonde. It's really well blended with my natural hair and I'm actually excited for my hair to grow out. I cant really call it an ombre because she basically had the blonde start from the top of my hair which I didn't want at all but whatever. Forever looking like a soccer mom now lol.

Great things to come; Where I've been and where I'm going

Happy New Year to all you little nuggets! If your New Years/Eve was as interesting (for lack of better words) as mine I'm sure you're excited and anticipating what the rest of the New Year has to offer. It'll be a busy year for me now that I'm going back to school but I'm excited to be back and feel refreshed and motivated again.

Updates: Makeup Purchases
I'm trying to move out by March hopefully so I've mostly been saving, so I haven't really bought any new products recently however, I finally gave in and Bought the Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit. So far so good, not complaints from this gal. Although I was nearly positive I wouldn't have any in the first place lol.

I've also recently bought something I've been eyeing for a while, which is one of Stila's metal foil eyeshadows in gold and I'm pretty happy with it. I specifically bought it for New Year's Eve but I actually like to wear a lot of gold shadows and highlights so it's something I wear with daily makeup as well. It has pretty good color payoff and doesn't budge much once it's on so it's an A+ from me.

Another thing thing I actually bought at Costco is Too Faced's Better Than False Lashes lash extension fiber duo mascara. It comes with two mascara tubes only one has tiny white fibers instead of mascara which you use to basically prime your lashes. After you do that you go over it with as many layers of mascara needed and it lifts and elongates the fibers making your lashes look super long. BUT, my point is that I bought it at Costco for $13 bucks I think? When about a year ago I bought it at Ulta for roughly $22 or something. It's suuuper cheap right now at Costco so if there's one near you I would most definitely suggest trying it out, you can't go wrong with this price! It's also the first time I've seen Costco carry higher end makeup like this which I found interesting.

I'm hoping to get up a review post on the things I just mentioned as well as a new makeup tutorial, featuring my glasses :) ALSO something I'm super stoked about, I'll be going to New York in a couple weeks for a few days and I can't wait. There will definitely be a few NY vlogs and blog posts from my trip, also if anyone has any suggestions on where I should visit I would love to hear. It's probably going to be snowing when which should be interesting because I'm freezing in 50 degree weather. (that's decently cold for a San Diegan)

I think that's all for now, stay tuned and stay excited:>
